FAQ's
Custom and personalised orders
We can source vintage rugs to fit our clients briefs based on size, colours and design. We can also customise our cushion orders for our client too.
Sizing details
Each vintage rug is unique and we cannot supply one design and different sizes because they are one off pieces. Each listing states the exact size of the rug. We find if you are struggling to visualise the size of the piece the best thing to do is to use masking tape to tape out the size and scale of a rug in your room and have it set out to consider each time you walk into the room in order to help decide if the size is going to work in your space.
Care instructions
Our vintage rugs are unique pieces of art in their own right, a piece of history that deserves special care to maintain its longevity. They are very durable but here are some tips to ensure your rug remains in great condition:
Regular Vacuuming: Gently vacuum your rug on a regular basis to remove dust and debris. Use a low suction setting and avoid vacuuming fringe to prevent damage.
Rotate Periodically: To prevent uneven wear, rotate your rug occasionally, especially if it's placed in a high-traffic area.
Spot Cleaning: Promptly attend to spills by blotting them with a clean cloth. Avoid rubbing the stain, as this can spread it further. For tougher stains, consider professional cleaning or use an at home carpet cleaner.
Gift wrapping and packaging
We certainly do offer a gift wrapping service for free! Just please let us know as soon as you place your order so that we can process and pack it correctly.

My rug has an imperfection. Why?
As vintage pieces, our rugs have natural wear and tear. These imperfections add to the beauty and timelessness of the rug. Vintage rugs often exhibit imperfections due to various factors related to their age, craftsmanship, and history.
Here are several reasons why imperfections may be present:
-
Handmade Craftsmanship: Many vintage rugs are handmade by skilled artisans using traditional techniques passed down through generations. The human element involved in the weaving process can lead to slight irregularities in the rug's design, such as variations in knotting, weaving tension, or dye saturation. These imperfections are often considered part of the rug's charm and authenticity, adding character and uniqueness to each piece.
-
Natural Materials: Vintage rugs are typically crafted from natural materials such as wool, cotton, or silk. These materials can vary in texture, thickness, and colour, the climate in which the plants were grown (for natural dyes), or the quality of the silk fibres. These natural variations contribute to the organic beauty of the rug but may also result in minor irregularities in the weave or colouration.
-
Wear and Tear: Over time, vintage rugs may show signs of wear and tear consistent with their age and use. This can include areas of pile wear, fraying edges, or small holes caused by foot traffic or exposure to environmental factors. While these imperfections may detract from the rug's pristine condition, they can also add to its character and serve as a testament to its history and durability.
-
Repair and Restoration: Vintage rugs often undergo repairs or restoration work to address damage or weaknesses in the fabric. While skilled artisans strive to match materials and techniques to the original construction, subtle differences in colour or texture may be noticeable upon close inspection. These repairs are typically done with the intention of preserving the integrity of the rug and ensuring its continued enjoyment for years to come.
Overall, imperfections in vintage rugs are a natural and expected part of their aesthetic appeal. They reflect the passage of time, the craftsmanship of the artisans who created them, and the unique journey of each rug throughout its lifespan. Embracing these imperfections can enhance the beauty and authenticity of vintage rugs, making them cherished heirlooms for generations to come.
Why does my rug have white dots?
Some vintage rugs have visible tie-offs that look like white dots. They are part of the handmade process and occur where weavers tie off strings from the warp that can break during hand-weaving. They do not compromise the integrity of the rug in any way, and can be more pronounced with low-pile shaven rugs.
White dots or spots on a vintage rug can be attributed to various factors, including the rug's age, wear and tear, or the materials used in its construction. Here are some common reasons why your vintage rug might have white dots:
-
Wear and Tear: Over time, vintage rugs may experience wear and tear, leading to the formation of white dots or spots. This can occur due to the gradual loss of fibres in high-traffic areas, resulting in exposed areas of the rug's foundation or backing showing through.
-
Fading: If the rug has been exposed to prolonged sunlight or harsh cleaning chemicals, it may experience fading or discoloration. This can manifest as white spots or areas where the rug's original colour has faded, leaving behind lighter patches.
-
Stains: White spots on a vintage rug could also be the result of spills or stains that have been treated with cleaning agents. In some cases, the cleaning process may remove or lighten the original colour of the rug, resulting in white spots or discoloration.
-
Natural Variation: Some vintage rugs may exhibit variations in colour or texture due to the natural materials used in their construction. For example, if the rug is made from wool or cotton, it may have natural variations in fibre colour or density that appear as white dots or spots.
-
Manufacturing Defects: In some cases, white dots or spots on a vintage rug may be the result of manufacturing defects or inconsistencies in the weaving process. These imperfections can occur during the rug's production and may become more noticeable over time as the rug ages.
-
Mould or Mildew: If a vintage rug has been exposed to moisture or humidity, it may develop mould or mildew growth, which can appear as white spots or patches on the rug's surface. Proper cleaning and maintenance can help prevent mould and mildew growth and preserve the integrity of the rug.
If you're concerned about the presence of white dots on your vintage rug, it's a good idea to inspect the rug closely and determine the cause of the discoloration. In some cases, professional cleaning or restoration may be necessary to address the issue and restore the rug's appearance.
Are your rugs professionally cleaned? Are they ready to use?
All of the rugs we sell go through an extensive cleaning process to ensure that the quality is what you expect from a genuine vintage carpet. They are ready to use as soon as you receive them.
Can I be sure that the colour of the rug in photos will be the same in person?
We do our best to make sure rug colours are represented as accurately as possible. There may be slight variations in what you see on your computer depending on the screen’s colour, contrast, and brightness. Within the product descriptions, we will also note any inherent colour variations. If the colour of your new rug is not what you were expecting we do offer a returns process.
